These islands are pre-release sites, where rehabilitated orphaned orangutans from the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) program are fed daily and monitored until they can be released into the wild. Personnel from BOSF will join us on the boat and explain the important work they are doing to save the orangutan – The man of the Forest. Continue steep climb up Tangkiling Hill for a view over the plains and river. Alternative option to visit St Joseph Convent and climb to see pathway lined with life size depiction of the Stations of the Cross. This site also has great view across Rungan River course. Return to the boat for lunch, and continue up river to the town of Kanarakan – stroll through this village, meet the kids and see how they collect the latex from rubber trees and the lifestyle in a village accessible only by river. Overnight at the village jetty.
